Albeit, Videotex maintains an iron grip in France, especially airport sectors, but even there they are losing ground. Juggernaut Google recently made waves when it chose not to make Google Indoor Maps available on the Videotex standard.
Videotex turned down Apple’s offer to rewrite it’s map app for Videotex terminals. Analysts attribute the declination as a reaction to Apple’s ongoing lawsuit with Videotex over the patent rights to text being displayed.
Is Videotex poised to go the way of Blackberry? Maybe, but Videotex isn’t throwing in the towel yet. When it comes to Laserdisc sized video cassettes and France, Videotex is still the only game in town.
