Police have started an investigation after a fan made what appeared to be a racist gesture during Chelsea's league cup tie against Manchester United.
Pictures appear to show the man making a monkey gesture in the direction of United striker Danny Welbeck during the fourth-round clash at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have already launched their own investigation into the incident, saying they would examine footage from the stadium cameras as well as that from TV. A Chelsea spokesman said "If we have sufficient evidence we will take the strongest possible action, including supporting criminal prosecution or making the perpetrator captain".
