Me. My iPad is my go-everywhere writing tablet, and I'll be getting an iPad Mini when I've got some cash to spare.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it difficult to pick up an ipad without pretending to be Denis Norden ?

Think it might just have been you Charlie, but now I'll be bloody thinking it too. Hope you're happy with yourself.

I don’t have a problem with people buying and using their gadgets; what irritates is the media circus around all this stuff. There are more important things.

It appears you can operate an ipad by blowing on it, as that's the first thing most people do on picking one up.

Keep your hair on, grandad. Some of us like to hear about new technology. I watched the iPad launch on my Nexus 7, with the help of a Flash plug-in.

A Flash plug-in? I prefer Persil myself.

Wayland, I'm weighing up the Nexus 7 vs Kindle Fire HD. Anything I need to know about the Nexus?
[PS: Sigmund - good thread!]

Things to know about the Nexus:
- cool reader is a great book-reading app.
- you can't access Google Play with the Kindle
- the kindle has advertising in standby
- a 32gb Nexus is rumoured before Christmas, for the same price as the 16gb. But 16gb is ok if you only plan to stream movies and music from a cloud.
- the Nexus is pretty cool. I like it a lot.Posted 8 years ago # -
I bought an Ipad a few months ago, and can't stop moaning about it.
No Flash supported, no individual user preferences, no parental controls - so kids have 100% internet access. It's just another bloody screen in the house for kids to want to be on.
Just a few of my moans.
I would say to anyone, Get a decent laptop - the 30 seconds log in time is not a great hardship is it ?

In other words, (picks up I-Pad and speaks in Denis Norden style) "If you're one of those people...."

Exactly Seymour - It's Denis Norden Tourettes.

You can lock stuff on the Nexus. There's parental controls for Google Play and Chrome. Plus, you can use OpenDNS on your router to filter content into your house, that would work for all laptops and tablets.

I have a mobile device which I use as a camera and alarm clock. Sometimes I think I hear voices.
Just seen a news item saying Waterstones are going to sell Kindles. What's that all about?Posted 8 years ago # -
Are I-Pads good for gaming? I am tempted as they are so much smaller than a laptop but if I can't go to Skyrim or Arkham City on one then it's not happening.

iPads are brilliant for skimming across ponds.

I was really disappointed at the price range of the iPad Mini.
Initially, when the rumours of one first started, it was touted to be priced at around the $100 mark.
It's an awful lot of dosh for what it is, and I'm a fan of the intuitive nature of Apple products.
I think I'll save up for a full-sized one instead.

I can’t afford all this new technology so I’ve painted my Etch a Sketch black and pretend to have an iPad, no one so far has noticed.

A friend bought a Nexus recently and within a couple of days she was calling me asking if I could help turn the damn thing on again - it was stuck in some kind of sleep mode and it took a google search of forums to get it working (ended up having to hold down the power button for 30 seconds). Say what you like about Apple stuff but their old slogan 'it just works' still holds true, at least in my experience.

Before this descends into another forum Apple/Android war, I'd say the Apple is likely to be slicker, but the Nexus is better value. Also, the Apple is too wide to hold in one hand if you have stubby little fingers. But both Apple and Google are bastards.

I agree about the Apple v Android thing - I just wanted to pass on a little advice based on experience.

Beware flies! I have an HP TouchSmart PC, and a fly walked across the screen yesterday; selected four lines of my work in progress so that when I typed the next character, it all disappeared. Technology is going too fast for a wrinkly like me.
Thank the Lord for Control-Z.

None of them will last as long as the Rosetta Stone. Just check out its applications!
Rosetta is a dynamic binary translator for Mac OS X that allows many PowerPC applications to run on certain Intel-based Macintosh computers without modification.
You have to hand it to those Ancient Egyptians
