The United Nations Human Rights Council issued an angry response after a number of Premier League players refused to wear t-shirts in support of the anti-racism Kick It Out campaign at the weekend.
President of the council Laura Dupuy Lasserre told reporters that she was personally disappointed and highlighted the damage done to the anti-racism projects the council oversees. "We were so close. So much work has gone in over the years and we were just weeks away from declaring racism over. Now the actions of this small number of footballers has rendered all that completely meaningless and we're back to square one".
"I don't think these players realise what they've done", concluded Lasserre. "We might have to disband the whole agency now", she said through the tears.
