US Border officials have banned Maurice Carter of Honiton, Devon from entering the United States, blaming what they call "Asparagus Syndrome" a rare medical condition which makes sufferers' urine smell of the seasonal vegetable for as long as three weeks after consumption.
US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton told a press conference: "We are disappointed that the UK authorities allowed this man to board a plane bound for New York. Special air marshalls diagnosed the condition when they passed the aircraft toilet. People with this condition are known to be a threat to global security and we suggest they commit suicide in their country of origin, or at least turn to canned asparagus, which poses less of a threat and cannot be taken on board aircraft."
