Are you saying that seeing as they can't get McKinnon, they'll go for Cumberbatch instead because he looks like him? If so, there's too much work requested of the reader for that to be a ticker I feel.

If we're going down the look-a-like route, how about something like:

US now willing to settle for 'Cumberbatch or maybe a large otter' instead of McKinnon.

Maybe not that exactly but, you know, turning it around a bit.
