American hard rock combo Guns ‘n Roses have been forced to re-record a track off their 1987 chart topping album ‘Appetite for Destruction’ after an area of land featured on one of the tracks was sold off to developers to make way for a gated community and shopping mall.
Until recently the land was covered in dense, impenetrable vegetation and was home to a diverse variety of indigenous wild birds and animals but now - along with the mall - boasts a 5 lane highway, a gas station and a bowling alley.
The land was sold off to developers Robeslee Concrete Co, makers of the largest pre-stressed lintels in the UK in a deal said to be worth around $15m
Despite a concerted effort from environmentalists to save the land from development, bull dozers moved in early last year to begin the building project and overnight the welcoming atmosphere of the forest canopy was replaced with threatening PRIVATE KEEP OUT warning signs. A complete contrast to the virgin patch of land envisaged in songwriter Axl Rose’s hard rock classic.
Although the only survivor from the original line-up, lead singer Rose said the new band had captured the energy of the 1987 rock classic but were struggling to come up with a name for the re-recorded track.
‘So far, all we can come up with is....‘Welcome to the ????’ said Rose
‘But we’re getting there’.
