This works.

It 'works' if you consider it to be a crime to be gay. As I don't think this is the case, I'd consider the post to be reprehensible.

Agreed.

Rootin for trouble methinks and guilty of using two l's - send him down....
Posted 7 months ago # -
No, I disagree, he (Rootin Tootin) does not allude that being gay is a crime, I see no indication that he says that nor suggests that.
I believe he probably meant something like:
Previous Rumors Regarding Jimmy Savile's Alleged Homosexuality Now Laid To Rest
"Reprehensible" it isn't, in my opinion anyway...but then again I gave it 2 as I felt I understood what he was alluding to and it kind of worked as, I also, always suspected that Savile was a homosexual (not that there is anything wrong with that) and was actually surprised he was fond of girls (albeit minors).
Thanks for the moral high ground lesson.
Cheers

I don't think anyone is claiming moral high ground. It may not have been intentional but headline 'Jimmy Saville cleared' for me sounds like he has been accused of a crime.
Posted 7 months ago # -
If you want me to get on my high ground, I will.
The post can also be interpreted as suggesting homosexuality is worse than paedophilia. And in the light of the news that a man has come forward and claimed he was abused as a child by Savile, it's also somewhat unfortunate. There's also a well-worn myth that 'gays are paedophiles'. I thought it was something that had been left behind by the mid-80s, after the debate surrounding Elton John's 'cub scout' theatre thing.
People sometimes post stuff that's offensive or inadvertently repugnant. I'd give the writer the benefit of the doubt here, but that doesn't stop the post from being deeply offensive.

Hi Damien, firstly I wish I had your surname ;0)
Secondly I learned early on here that it's extremely difficult to get a laugh out of gay innuendo even if you are in fact gay and sending yourself up. I've had a few close shaves but let's not go into that. As Wayland says it is often inadvertent.
However, there is a loophole. If you want to get away with absolute murder here just crack a few jokes about hot wet lesbians with Japanese girlfriends! No 'molar highglound' there - oh shit was that racist? Jesus Christ - oh fuck...blasphemy. I give up.....

I object to everything!
Some of my best friends are DJ's

Dick Everyman, great to see you back!
It depends a lot on the presumptions made that are basis for the joke. For instance, Jim Davidson's jokes always started on the assumption that everyone thought black people were stupid, which is why he was so offensive. Same problem here: the presumptions made are what offends me.
As for SugarTits, that starts from the assumption that SugarTits isn't a woman at all, but a balding middle-aged man who is obsessed with lesbians. Personally, I think that's a hilarious starting point.
There are always grey areas, but some stuff is just wrong.

I love 'SugarTits' but draw the line at grey areas! Nice to be back and enjoying your stuff and these hot debates once more. I've got a feeling ST will be raising her/his head again very soon!!

but... if the Daily Mail says so it must be true

RSPCA next, no doubt....
Posted 7 months ago # -
I'm willing to believe that not ALL gays are paedophiles, but I think it's generally accepted that the vast majority are.
Posted 7 months ago # -
Damien, criticising a sub that implies homosexuality should be illegal and is worse than paedophilia is hardly 'PC bullshit'.
If someone wrote 'Savil(l)e cleared...at least he wasn't black', would you defend that too? It's the same 'joke' and just as offensive.
As I said before, it doesn't matter what the writer intended, the post is easily interpreted as being objectionable. Your attempt to defend it, however, speaks volumes about you. 'Some if my best friends are gays' was the gist of part of it, I think?

i love it when people take offence on behalf of other people.
after all, look how exciting it became in the muslim world after many thousands of them rioted and murdered other, innocent non muslim people, about a little film in america that someone who knew someone that once knew a muslim, had said it was offensive to muslims.
the post is easily interpreted as being objectionable
yeah, right, if you want it to be.
mary whitehouse made a fucking nuisance of herself for years with this type of stance.Posted 7 months ago # -
Yikes! Someone's used the 'M' word! Yes, 'Mary'....looks like Fatwhites will be issued all around now.

Thanks for the heads up Dick.

‘Heads up dick’ sounds horrendously painful.
I wonder if we could establish an award for the most outrageously offensive, non-PC joke of the month? The Boyle-Gervais trophy? What would the inclusion criteria be?Posted 7 months ago # -
Anytime....Yikes!
Posted 7 months ago # -
FFS. Why do things have to become a bitch fest. It starting to turn me off this site.
Posted 7 months ago # -
The criteria for any award would be that it simply has to offend Waylandsmithy....if he doesn't find it offensive then it shouldn't even be on the shortlist... witten on two subs
Isn't about the sub. Just a cheap shot, and bitchy.
Posted 7 months ago # -
If it's a therapist you need or a psychological assessment ask Waylandsmithy...he can analyse anybody just by reading a post on a forum..... in the chat room is bitchy.
If you wish to know what I agree with read my following post.
I never said I was going
Not sure I havesaid anything remotly bitchy, but am ready to stand corrected

The very fact that wayland interpreted the post as he did shows that the way it was written left it open to be interpreted, or even misinterpreted, as being offensive.
I know a real live gay, so to clear this up once and for all I'll ask him what he makes of it. I'll give him a call, obviously I'm not going to go and ask him in person in case I catch some sort of horrendous disease from him.
And just because I have his phone number that doesn't mean I'm into bum sex or anything like that.
I am quietly impressed though that we're having a debate without anybody having resorted to calling anybody else names yet.

You would say that VCG, you prick.

Now then, now then, goodness gracious guys and gals!

THE CABAL IS NOT OPEN TO OPEN TALKAGE VIZ-A-ZIV TASTE AND DECENCY. THE CABAL DETECTS A WIFF OF UNAUTHORISED CUNTAGE. IT WOULD BE A SHAME IF THE BRAKES FAILED ON A MOUNTAIN NEAR SOME LIONS ON A COLD NIGHT WITHOUT A JUMPER TO FEEL THE BENEFIT? JUST SAYING. AND RECOGNISING THOSE THAT ARE GOOD AT HINTS WITH AMPLE PARKING AND BETTER SANDWICHAGE.

Fuck the latent homophobia (or lack of it).
I'm more concerned that it's clearly not in standard ticker format.
Posted 7 months ago # -
I've sat back, I've read, I've bitten my lip.
Not any longer.Thank you bonjo, you've opened the door for me to be honest about my feelings for this post.
Whatever the hidden or otherwise meanings, regardless of all the arguments raging, and ignoring the fact that some people like to see conspiracy where there is none, this is a poorly written, unfunny sub at best.
There, I said it. It's just not funny.
Glad I got that out of my system.
