The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today announced that Greenland has been successful in securing the 2020 Winter Olympics.
Jacqes Rogge, the president of the IOC said ‘Greenland has superb snow and ice slopes which are ideal for hosting Olympic events such as ice hockey, the Luge and bobsleighing.
Athletes will be given training on how to adapt to the unique environment, including surviving attack by polar bears, arctic wolves and how to discourage penguins.
Critics have slammed the decision stating that the region does not have the required infrastructure to host the event while the Daily Mail has said that the move can only lead to a depreciation of UK house prices and an influx of asylum seekers into Britain, probably.
Games sponsors, MacDonalds immediately responded to the announcement with plans to open a chain of ‘restaurants’ on the territory.
The host nation of Inuit tribes and Eskimos are hoping to secure home advantage via their knowledge of where ice fishing holes are and areas where killer whales are most likely to eat participating athletes.
However, Scotland is appealing the decision on the grounds that it has ‘shitty cold’ weather for most of the year and is therefore most suited to host the winter games.
