Bloody JK Rowling - all my books are much better, but just because she's "in" with the publishers, everyone buys Casual Vacancy. Fucking cronyism - my brilliant talent is being missed by everyone, bunch of wankers.

On a serious note, I feel your pain. I went through all that and went the distance, but fell at the final fence. I went to pick up a MS from a top London agency (Can't name it, but it's in Haymarket) and was astounded to see mountains of MS's all over the floor. Literally hundreds of them. They can't possibly devote time to all of them, which is why people don't make it. It is a lottery. Since then I've been published by sponsors, but they don't have the marketing clout of the big publishing houses, so I can't afford to give up the factory job. It might be an idea for someone from this site to produce a 'Best Of NB' book. Maybe you should discuss it. There's some good stuff here (Not mine I hasten to add) which deserves a wider audience. My message would be - don't give up. You may never be a Stephen King or JK Rowling, but it's quite pleasant to have your stuff actually put out there. If nothing else, it shows your grandkids that your life wasn't entirely futile.

D'oh! I always put my bleeding foot in it, and come out looking like a proper twonk. In a somewhat chastened effort to retrieve some semblence of dignity, may I suggest that you do it again? In the meantime, I'll put an order in for the Ceefax book. Call it moral support or something.

To be fair, the book was released a few years ago now, and a follow up would be nice...
