Defence analysts have noted with alarm the commissioning of the Chinese navy’s new aircraft carrier, Liaoning. In keeping with the current trend, the carrier does not fly aircraft. The Royal Navy currently has two Queen Elizabeth II class carriers in design which will have no aircraft for the foreseeable future.
The Americans and the Russians are both thought to be developing newer versions of stealth planes that do not take off and submarines that only stay surfaced
