Interesting point. 15 is the age of consent; but presumably its still an abduction as she is under 16?

I was wondering if they paid a child fare for her on the ferry, or if he made a mitigating point of paying the full adult fare, "because that's how I see her".

I'm not sure if that was top of his dilemma list, but still - you can't have it both ways, surely.

interesting how the overall reaction seems to be 'yes technically she's underage but not really, eh? I mean 15's all right isn't it?' at what age would the moral outrage have outweighed the wa-hey snigger factor - 14? 13? 12??

I heard on the radio this morning that it doesn't matter if she was 16. Because he was her teacher, he is in a position of influence which means under the age of 18 it is deemed abuse of power or something like that

Good point golgo. He must have had a moral dilema with that one

Speaking as a school governor, he's definitely lost his well-paid job (Maths teachers get much more than others) and teaching career, will probably get a good couple of years inside, will likely be on the sex offenders' register, and will struggle to get a job with any employer requiring any degree of responsibility. In France, even if 15 is legal (which I suspect it is), then there may be an obligation for her to attend education if she's there for a while.

So, when he returns, he won't be enjoying the next sex quite as much.

Earlier today I made an outrageously inappropriate comment on this one in the Huffington Post. To my utter dismay and chagrin instead of being unceremoniously binned until the very end of time I received a "favourite" notification from a middle-aged woman who surely should know better.

It goes without saying that I've now involved the police.

This would be an interesting question to ask former teachers at Goyt Bank School in Stockport, now I believe called Offerton High School. Late 70s and early 80s. I heard the name 'Healey' on BBC news. Surely no connection.

@antharrison...Offerton has now shut down for good. The number of pupils going down was the main reason given, according to an article I read...

There was no story. I was there in the 70s and it is fair to say that the conduct of some of the teachers fell below expected standards and quite a few should be in prison.

We've all been to schools like that. Underage sex, drugs & violence. Fortunately, most of the students didn't join in.

Interesting point. Unfortunately, government cutbacks meant we were unable to afford bananas and condoms for sex education, so I had to show them what I could with what I had to hand.

Our regular RE teacher had to improvise with what he could bring to hand, the miserable sod (in the original meaning of the word). Still, you don't hear me moaning about my sex ~~training~~ lessons at school. I'd have been beaten if I'd moaned.
