I can't quite figure out why there are two different sites, with different stories, that both point to the same writers' room, and yet nothing appears to make it from the WR to the co.uk site. Probably a simple explanation. Any thoughts? Just curious.

Is newsbiscuit.co.uk the evil twin of newsbiscuit.com?

The dot-co-dot-u-k site is the old one, forever frozen in time with the Harry Potter FP and the agnostic praying mantis etc etc.
The new dot-com one was launched in early 2010, and if you look at the sticky threads (...ok, settle down) in the current writer and chat rooms, you will see how traumatic the adjustment was. Like decimalisation...
Until a few weeks ago, the old site still pointed to an old archive, an old chat room, an old writers room, that you could still use...like you could with shillings and florins for a while...
...but now it has been linked up to the current ones, and the old chat room has been removed from circulation...like when they made 5p's smaller.

Fantastic summary, worthy of an FP. Thanks Golgo13 (that's not your age I hope, and if it is, I am absolutely not grooming you, just being friendly).

It was somewhere safe for us old people to go and moan about the youngsters and reminisce about the good old days. We didn't have things like badger culls back then....we just had badger fisting.....no real harm done and everybody went home happy.
