Las Vegas casino in turmoil after owner orders "massive reshuffle"

This doesn't work, because the pun doesn't work in both directions. You 'reshuffle' cards, but no-one 'reshuffles' casinos. There is no link between a casino and a cabinet reshuffle, and cards in a casino are shuffled on a regular basis anyway, to prevent cheating. It just doesn't fit any of the basic structures of a joke.
Sorry JohnA, but this is shit.

Unnecessary. Destructive. Nasty.
I'm talking about the comment above.

My girlfriend just described the fart I did with those exact words.

I'd have given it stars if you'd written it Wayland.

Seems to have touched a nerve.

Yes of course it is. That's the point.
Your "plaidophile joke" was utterly meaningless - a weak pun on paedophile combined with "background check".
But the response to the two non-jokes was wildly different. One poster even admitted it took him a day to work out your "joke" and still was complimentary when he'd really actually defined what a bad joke is -if it takes you a day to work it out then its no good. The rest were gushing to the point of embarassment.
Why bother? Its a schoolyard dynamic of favourites, hangers-on and the reviled, without there ever being a teacher in sight or a school bell to end it.
I reckon that a few of you could now mash the keyboard with your face and it would still make an FP.
That's got to be good for at least 5 stars.

Err...no they weren't, John. There were 3 comments, one of them was 'like it'. Hardly 'gushing'.
This sub isn't a joke at all, John. It's like a child saying 'what do you call a cat with a hat on? A hat cat.' You seem to be exploring the very early stages of comedy, without understanding why it is that adults sometimes laugh.
I'm not defending my joke, it was a throw-away ticker of little consequence. But it does at least contain the basic structure of a joke, whether it was funny or not. It wasn't 'meaningless' though, that just suggests you didn't 'get it' (background checks are done to find paedophiles, whereas a plaidophile might like something that has checks/tartan in the background. (I guess having to explain it means it isn't funny, but I still found 'where's the soap?' funny after someone had to explain it to me.)

Cold showers all round chaps, I suggest.
We're here for the funny, not Eastenders.

It was a hot bath, actually Ironduke. Couple of nuns in it. One says to the other "...
Never mind.

Oh please. One of them was "one star per word" gushed by dvo

It wasn't meant to be. I knew it was weak - that's why I submitted it.

You then go on to defending the "joke". I did know what plaid is but what I didn't see at all was the 5-star ribtickler that went straight to the ticker on the front page.
Why the fuck should most of us even bother writing at all when the comedy goal appears to be edge on for most of us and we just get abuse through the stars and the tagging from anonymous scumbags?

"Why the fuck should most of us even bother writing at all when the comedy goal appears to be edge on for most of us..."
I gave up ages ago, apart from the odd hopeful ticker now and again.

That's not a good place to start, to be honest. Have you thought of submitting something funny?

Have you?
Well, bugger me backwards!
I must have missed it?
What do you do in your spare time Mr Hilarious? Watch holocaust videos?
(The author of this post would like it to be made clear that he thinks the writer known as Waylandsmithy is nothing other than a big lady's wee out of. This in response to Waylandsmithy referring to said author (Term used loosely) as a big lady's wee out of, and not intended to be inferred directly or indirectly to refer to said person as "a complete and utter cunt.")
That was for waylandsmithy.

I wouldn't say massive...
See you all in a few months.

@JohnA "Oh please. One of them was "one star per word" gushed by dvo"
I know I shouldn't continue this thread but ...
The first way for me to know whether someone else's comment on sub was gushing or not would be for me to know what the commentator's real assessment was and then stacking that up against the commentators comment. Hmm, I think that makes sense.
Or, perhaps a comment which is a long torrent (gush) of praise. My 4 word comment on wayland's 5 word sub was a reflection of how 'clever' I thought it was - for such a short ticker. My house-rule is to reserve 5 stars for something that prompts an audible larf or is particularly biting satire but I do vary that for tickers. As in this case. And I do have to re-set my starrage meter from time to time as there tends to be slippage.
I do generally like wayland's stuff but haven't made any comment or awarded any stars for his recent two over-ticker length subs.
Right, first cup of the day is getting cold. Must be off

Oh and I liked this sub - thinking that the Casino reference was to the 'owners' of Government. I gave it 4.

I've been putting deliberately weak ticker efforts on here for over a year to test the board, but nothing like your success here JohnA. Well done. 5*

Yikes:
I like the revised ticker candidate!
It doesn't matter. It won't be read by the editor and it will be trolled into the ground. Such is the fun happy playground called the Newsbiscuit Writer's Forum.
