Richard II was a Plantagenet but Richard III was House of York.

York and Lancaster were both cadet branches of the Plantagenets

Clamping is still the act one expects of a complete Richard (especially the Third).

From history lessons at school, ‘plantagenet’ is old Frog for ‘a sprig of broom' - something to do with the coat of arms. I wonder if all those suits of armour preserved in stately homes are just medieval traffic warden’s uniforms?
