Is it just me, but…
Sauntered over to the 'Top Ten' and this offering is number one!
Lawks'a'lawdy… now, I am from Yorkshire, but isn't it just a rather lame spoonerism?
And, after having been (rightly) lampooned for bringing up a rather less than topical ticker ('80's) with " Norman Tebbit hailed as 'visionary force' behind GB Olympic cycling success" a few weeks ago, I see that a luminary of the boards has regaled us with a nifty 'topical' gag about Marianne Faithful and Mars… * snork * * f'narr *
I guess I just don't get the ethos, the driving force, behind the Biscuit.
Carry on...
PS. I've neither fived it nor given it a one. For all I know it may be the wittiest thing since Oscar Wilde said "Give 'im the money Mabel."

Hi Pinxit,
Yes - indeed a spoonerism (and also an anagram - ah the allure of alliteration), but since letters have been shuffled around I feel it's OK to use 'dyslexic' otherwise I'd have to come up with something longer and almost certainly less snappy.
Surprised me too that it's hit the top spot - I've certainly come up with contributions that I think are totally hilarious and am disappointed when they get low (or no) ratings but that's just the way the cookie crumbles. Some will always fall on stony ground.
(For what it's worth I seem to recall giving you 5* for the Tebbit ticker.)
Regards

I suppose that's a fair point pinxit, I often think that there is not much topical on here (maybe due to slow news days), and I try to take ideas from the news most of the time, Mars Curiosity being the news item in the post you mention, although I concede that 50% of the gag is from sometime in the sixties.... I also think that a good bit of old fashioned wordplay can be joyous, which is why I starred the cat flap. The Tebbit line is good too if you want my opinion!

@Alex and charlie : thanks for your very gracious responses. My slightly tetchy post was not at all meant as a criticism of either of you, rather at my puzzlement of what is deemed funny on the biccy. Keep on doing that voodoo that you do so well.
As a minor cruciverbalist meself, I'm partial to an anagram or two, too. =]
