A nervous Vatican is said tonight to be preparing for a major statement on the ancient Mayan prediction of an apocalypse striking humanity in 2012.
Sources believed to be well-placed within the papal inner circle say that we can expect to hear clarification on the apocalypse and the divine revelation they say will follow. While the Church is not committing itself to a 2012 coming of days - and is certainly not relinquishing its hold on divinely-held truth - it would appear to be hedging its bets just in case the Mayans were somehow on to something.
In the predictions updating the Book of Revelations are rumoured to be some surprising items, including:
Are American voters genuinely crazy, or are they just pulling a giant practical joke on the rest of us?
If Julian Assange really is a fearless fighter for justice and truth, why's he so afraid of Sweden?
Could George Osborne look more sinister in photos? Is he really spawn of Satan?
Are we human, or are we dancers?
