Speaking of her ordeal, 38 year-old Anita Sandringham today told reporters it was 'just like having costume jewelry and electronic goods of a relatively low value stolen from my house. I feel violated.'
'People don't understand the impact rape has, but I'd equate it with the psychological damage caused by having to call out a 24-hr locksmith and compile a report to an insurance company.'
Mrs Sandringham is said to be considering setting up a support group for the victims of minor property crime, after her ordeal opened her eyes to the issue.
'I've never actually been a victim of low-level theft, and touch wood never will be, but after being raped, I can imagine exactly how it feels.'
