The Queen has been photographed wearing a Wedgwood blue matching hat and jacket at a private garden party.
'It's hugely embarrassing,' said veteran Royal watcher Evelyn Mountjoy. 'After the Jubilee celebrations, people were ready to take Her Majesty seriously. Even at her age she can let her hair down occasionally, but this is ridiculous.'
Newspaper globally have published pictures of the Queen, but so far the British press have published pictures only of the hat and jacket on a waxwork model.
'It's not the first time we've had a scandal like this,' said Mountjoy. 'The Queen was recently seen wearing a wool-crepe dress by her in-house couturier Angela Kelly, with matching hat and an amethyst brooch studded with seven purple stones and twelve freshwater pearls, gifted to her in 1960 after the opening of the Queen's Bridge in Scotland.'
'It's all very well,' he added, 'but she forgets she's the Queen of England. Before we know it, she'll be caught stark bollocks naked wearing a mint green hat was dotted with Swarovski crystals and swathed in layers of tulle to match the trim on her coat.'
'It's no example for young Prince Harry, is it?' he said.
