The Ecuador government has accepted Julian Assange’s request for political asylum but have told the Wikileaks whistleblower that the only place they have vacant at the moment is a one bedroom apartment on the isle of Pinta.
The property only became available earlier this month when the previous occupant - a Mr George Lonesome – vacated the premises after spending the last 110 years there.
A spokesman for the Ecuadorian government told Mr. Assange that the property would need a little spring clean to remove some old lettuce leaves and possibly a new lick of paint here and there but was pretty much ready to move in to.
Mr.Assange was said to be delighted with the move but also a little disappointed to find that the apartment would probably be too small to take the antique chaise-lounge that was a present from his late grandmother.
