Blues singer Blind Joe Arlington has shocked the music press with his death-bed confession that blues is actually a long running gag played on gullible souls who like to consider themselves ‘rootsy’
‘All you have to do is listen, really listen’ - said Arlington from a secret location in Florida - ‘It’s always the same damn song’
Arlington is now in hiding after alleged death threats from the powerful blues music lobby.
‘The original Delta guys used to feel guilty about it. Different song title, same 12 bar drone dragging its heels underneath, but then they noticed that it didn’t matter a damn bit. That people not only tolerated it, they revered it. So, hell, they went with it. It was a production line man. They were cranking them out by the dozen.’
When asked about the legendary bluesman Robert Johnson, Arlington replied ‘Hell, he didn’t go to no crossroads to sell his soul, he went there to sell the patent’
All of which begs the question, is Arlington really blind?
‘Christ no, I have a mild astigmatism at worst, but that doesn’t exactly trip off the tongue does it’?
Eric Clapton has refused to comment.

For me, this would only work with 'jazz'.

I was on my second or third 'jazz' evening by the time I realised how formulaic it was

I had a lecturer at college who was in a Blues band.
They had a song called 'Pensioners Blues' which started with - "I woke up this morning, thank fuck for that..."Posted 10 months ago # -
