David Cameron has called an emergency cabinet meeting this morning after Danny Boyle finally revealed an anti-government message to a worldwide audience of billions.
The spectacular display included scenes of the British countryside being ravished by corporate greed, farms and greenbelt being torn up in the name of ‘economic growth ’ and pollution on an industrial scale. Tory plans for the NHS were also highlighted as hundreds of hospital beds each containing a dying child were wheeled into the stadium. The Health Minister, Andrew Lansley , was represented as a giant Voldermort , casting a spectral shadow over valiant nurses. Later, the decline in British manufacturing was centre stage demonstrated by a single Olympic ring forged in a fiery furnace. The other four were shown being imported from China.
Lord Coe expressed shock and anger at the hijacking of the event for political propaganda , ‘The Olympics is all about sport and showing the rest of the world how great we are compared to them. I feel betrayed that Danny should use this opportunity to criticise this wonderful government of ours.’
Danny Boyle told the waiting press, ‘To be honest, I’m a bit annoyed that nobody spotted my reference to the decline in British music since the sixties and seventies. I fuckin hate that rap shit.’
