The Chris Moyles All Request Friday feature has proved so popular, it is to be extended and featured five days a week.
The initiative allows listeners to text the show, letting the presenter know what records and downloads they would actually enjoy hearing and Moyles then broadcasts their musical request to the nation.
The idea has proved so popular that Radio 1 controllers have ruled that they will pilot the scheme for all the station’s breakfast programmes.
The policy flies in the face of existing practice, where radio deejays play tracks they think the audience should be listening to, obscure tunes that make them look ‘cool’ and some ‘absolute tosh’.
The policy has been standard policy for many years with wedding DJs, who charge double the going rate and play whatever tunes they happen to feel like playing.
Chris Moyles will be leaving Radio 1 in September this year.
