With the news that contributors will be forced to reapply for their own IDs as the site moves over to it’s new home and is downsized. This comes after the takeover of the satirical news website by venture capital firm Moore, Profit and Now. Many fear that younger more dynamic writers will be given preference over the usual
middle-aged underachievers who traditionally write for the site.
Unions have criticised the takeover for failing to offer adequate retraining to surplus subbers in areas like joke-writing for crackers or ITV prime time comedy shows. One regular known as Don-Qui Penus spoke for many ‘Where am I going to find another topical news website to take my subs at my age ? I’ve been thrown on the scrapheap without a second thought. I still have so much to give; my mother-in-law jokes are highly regarded in my local’.
Members haven’t ruled out the possibility of strike action, although a group of people standing around not being funny could be mistaken for the scriptwriters of Horne & Corden. Former site owner John O’Farrell was unavailable for comment as he is believed to be shopping for a private island in the Caribbean with the proceeds.
PS (Headline was much better but new site won’t allow more than about 10 words !!!).
