the thing (alert) on the left of the front page. where the canada guide is at the mo.
the writer guidelines explain it is a catch-all for pieces that don't fit the usual style.

I see you got 4* for your question. Very well written, I must say.
There really aren't enough things posted as potential Left Alert.
The "Left Alert" is for newsie stuff that isn't, well, news. I don't mean stuff that was news but isn't news now because it isn't new but might have been news in the past when it was new, or things that weren't really news because this is a spoof news website so doesn't necessarily qualify as news in the real world but could be labeled news in this virtual world, or items that fall into any other category of news that isn't new news or old news. No, I definitely don't mean that.
Hope that clears things up.
PS, editor, how do you get a list of archived Left Alerts ?

I only gave 4* as I thought the question mark should go inside the quote marks but now I am not so sure ...
But the first "o" should be capitalised in any event so probably stick with 4* anyway.
