Blizzard entertainment inc. (CA) today announced their intention to start awarding achievements for activities outside of Azeroth, to try to combat criticism that World of Warcraft players lack the social skills to live in the real world. The new achievements include titles such as "the ambassador", awarded for speaking to an actual girl instead of trading innuendo with a twelve year old boy pretending to be a female night elf, "the one light in the darkness", awarded for showering and brushing teeth within the same 24 hour period and "the insane", for having an actual girlfriend in real life. The most coveted title, "the light of dawn", is given only to those who have stayed up all night for reasons other than raiding on a Korean server.
"We just felt it was time we contributed to society a bit more", said a senior source from Blizzard. "Countless social lives have been lost to Word of Warcraft, and we wanted to give something back. We created these new real life achievements to try to recognize that actually, to some of our subscribers, a ten man heroic is easy compared to striking up a conversation with an modestly attractive waitress."
