Sorry if this topic already exists elsewhere on here.

But you know the kind of thing I'm on about. You're listeneing to a song on the radio and then some dire lyric assaults your finer feelings. I'm not saying 'offensive' I'm saying badly constructed. If anybody wants to play then I'll lead off.

I often make the mistake of trying to apply logic to lyrics and find they quickly fall apart under even the lightest scrutiny.

Exhibit 1

Level 42 - Running In The Family

The lyric:- "There's me, with Emily and Joe and Daddy driving home, all heading in the same direction. He knew no matter what the breaks, we'd make the same mistakes. Couldn't take his eyes off Joe and me".

The lead singer of Level 42 is Mark King. That makes his brother Joe King.

They are driving home, "all heading in the same direction". What does that mean? Isn't that what cars usually do? Unless Daddy buys cut and shuts. Hit a speed bump at more than 10mph and the weld fails. Maybe that's the "breaks" he is referring to. Cue younger Kings heading down a steep hill in the back half of an Austin Montego, Last of the Summer Wine style.

"Couldn't take his eyes off Joe and me". WATCH THE ROAD YOU IDIOT. You've got kids in the back (at least until you hit that pothole).

So, with stupid names for the children, a propensity for buying dodgy cars and driving without due care and attention, this song shows us that Mark King's dad was not the brightest!
