The hurry to buy the so-called “too good to hurry” mint appears to be over as it was announced today that Swiss chocolate has won the coveted Wonkerdom trophy for the 7th time, and is so confirmed the British confectionery of choice. The hard-hitting boiled sweet looked set to make a comeback after 74 years of dwindling sales, when the shock news was announced, despite backing by celebrities such as the Sugababes and Candi Staton. Industry leader, Cheri Drop said, “Murray held off stiff competition from the likes of Imperial and Everton who in particular was extra strong, but alas the outcome was far from sweet.” Debate is raging on what happens to the huge volume of mints that have gone unsold, but one suggestion is to dump them in landfill and use the area for recreation. One suggested name for the site is “Murray Mount”.
