The maximum amount a family can receive in welfare benefits a year has been raised to £33 million, Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith has announced.
The cap was set at £26000 but Mr Duncan Smith decided it should be £33 million after meeting a London family 'who were struggling to get by on £33 million'.
To critics, he pointed out that the family's travel costs are high.
'Just one train journey by the son of the family cost over £38000 and that was with a Senior Rail Card,' he said.
The family are also believed to be receiving maximum housing benefit.
'If the housing benefit cap kicks in,' said Mr Duncan Smith, 'it's possible the family may have to move out of London to Windsor or Balmoral or Sandringham or Holyroodhouse or...'
