Customs chief John Cox has urged the public to stay calm, after fears that Britain could suffer from further outbreaks of pickled cabbage smuggling.
Reports that preserved versions of the leafy vegetable were flooding into the country from regions such as Korea, Austria and the Ukraine, are unfounded he told reporters.
"Yes, some Kim Shee*, did make it into the country, but that was a perfectly legal consignment intended for Korean restaurants in New Malden. And there have been isolated incidents of pickled cabbage products among our polish community," said Cox.
At the very most, Britain may experience an intake of a tightly shinkwrapped box containing jars of herbacious leafy green cultivars that have been preserved by Germans. "But that would be the Wurst case scenario" he said.
* not sure how you spell Kim Shee. it's a Korean cabbage based delicacy
