The country was plunged deeper into economic turmoil today after another break down on Status Quo’s latest UK tour.
Stuck on the hard shoulder of the A1 just outside South Mimms services, the band’s ailing 1979 Bedford Campervan has required round-the-clock repairs to stay on the road.
However, a transport lifeline has been offered by the Parachute Regiment in Colchester.
“We’ve got a stripped-down Saxon APC ready and waiting for Status Quo,” said Corporal Henshaw of 3 Para’s car pool – who claims to be a close personal friend of Quo guitarist Rick Parfitt.
“All we need is a 24-hour pass and to convince the Colonel we’re on legitimate army business.”
However, Corporal Henshaw’s colleague, Private Doberman claimed the scheme was “dead in the water” and that “Henshaw reckons Quo’s best album is Spare Parts so what does he know.”
In the city the FTSE index closed three points down, reflecting uncertainty over denim futures.
