Fearing an imminent rebuff from Equador, Julian Assange has stayed one step ahead of the authorities by seeking asylum in the primate enclosure at London Zoo.
London Zoo director Jason Hunt said the zoo was delighted to secure a highly prized albino specimen: “they are very popular with foreign tourists, especially Scandinavian ones.”
Assange is said to be enjoying the apes company: “I have this line … yes it is a banana in my pocket AND I’m pleased to see you – works every time! These girls don’t know how to say no!”
However animal behaviour expert Julie Carr says Assange may just be a temporary novelty to the apes: “he’s an albino and a celebrity but what really counts in the primate world is to have an enormous arse, not be an enormous arse.”
