Talking to reporters in Mexico the Prime Minister said "imagine you are saving up for a complicated tax avoidance scheme and you suddenly see Jimmy Carr is playing near you. The sensible thing would be to buy tickets using a fraudulent bank card, or get on the guest list by pretending you are a friend of his accountant."
Meanwhile Carr has denied using a joke avoidance scheme. "I use the minimum of jokes necessary to satisfy my audience. In comedy, as in fiscal matters, less is often more. That doesn't mean I am less humorous than other comedians. Just take a look of the photographs of my house in the Daily Mail. What other celeb would buy a property that looks like an old people's home?"
