Ubiquitous Geordie presenting duo, Ant and Dec, have been awarded the coveted title of the nation's biggest anchors for a third consecutive year, in a poll of Radio Times readers to be published later this week.
In a hotly contested category it's understood that the pair just managed to fight off a strong challenge from the BBC's Top Gear trio of Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond.
Writing in the RT its editor explains the reason behind the continued success for the pair of cheeky Northumbrian pixies. "It was a close call. Clarkson, Hammond and May are a tough act to beat. Their pointless, inane and infantile overgrown schoolboy antics can, and indeed really do more often than not, irritate the absolute bejesus out of most right-thinking decent viewers; but all that quite frankly pales into insignificance compared to Ant and Dec's irksome smugness when they are anchoring I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here and Saturday Night Takeaway.
For the record the top five as voted for in the poll were:
1. Ant & Dec
2. Clarkson, Hammond & May
3. Davina McCall
4. Matt Baker
5. Ann Robinson
A worthy list indeed, and one that is very much endorsed by staff here on the magazine. I'm sure our readers will join us in congratulating them all. Every last one a colossal anchor in his or her own right."
