Nearly three million Brits took advantage of the long Bank Holiday weekend - even though they don't have a job.
Brenda Wills (56) said that although her neighbours are unemployed, 'they still sat around in the garden over the Jubilee weekend just as if they were on holiday. It's disgusting, especially as the Queen has worked hard for sixty years.'
But Jason Smith (21) who has been unemployed for two years, said he wasn't aware of the holiday. 'Thanks to the government I have a long weekend every week,' he said.
The DWP said it was aware that some people who were signing on had taken Monday and Tuesday as a holiday.
'We know of one claimant who was seen joining in street party celebrations and was clearly enjoying himself although he claims be a republican and suffer from depression,' a DWP enforcement spokesman said.
