The Duchess of Cambridge yesterday demonstrated her thrifty side at a Palace garden party by wearing the £1,200 Emilia Wickstead frock she wore two weeks ago at the Queen's Jubilee lunch at Windsor Castle.
'It's a royal lesson in how to make do in hard times,' said royals watcher Desmond Burke. 'We should all learn from Kate's example and sacrifice. It puts to shame those women who in these austere times thoughtlessly lash out on another pair of M&S knickers instead of feeding their children.'
It's believed that the 8,000 guests fell silent as the Duchess arrived.
'It took a few minutes for it to sink in that she was wearing the frock for the second time,' said garden party guest Linda Date (60). 'I'll think twice now before I spend my pension money on another skirt from the Cats Protection shop.'
