Fifa president Sepp Blatter has asked Bayern Munich honorary president Franz Beckenbauer to come up with an alternative to the "tragedy" of English teams winning the Europeam cup final on penalty shoot-outs.
"Football should not go to one to one. When it goes to penalty kicks football loses its essence. English teams have won three champions league finals in the last ten years by penalties, and this is simply not acceptable."
"True, on one of those occasions both competing teams were English, but if a way for another nation to win that year was presented I would be happy to see it implemented."
He added: "Perhaps Franz Beckenbauer with his football 2014 group can show us a solution, perhaps not today but in the future."
