Egypt has sensationally entered the Eurovision Song Contest this weekend, Egyptians have been polled on their favourite musical number, although as ever the traditional Eurovision tactical voting was much in evidence when the army voted on mass for Hosni Mubacarra's song "Yasser I can boogie" which initially polled 150% of the electorates votes, although this was later revised to 20%, there was also a strong showing for the Arab League's "Don't you want sharia". The winner however was The Muslim Brotherhood of Man's catchy euro beat tune "Meccarena" written and produced by former Chic legend Nile Rodgers which was performed on stage with the Burkha clad backing dance group "Eyes & Co.".
Responding to critics that Egypt had no reason to be in Eurovision, Music supremo
Ali Sharif told reporters "why not, Brittan and France used to own the Suez canal surely that makes us part of Europe besides where about's in Europe is Azerbaijan or Israel and Belgium well it isn't really a country anyway". Officials have also denied reports that they are trying to influence other countries voting panels by telling them that should Egypt win and host the event in Cairo next year, they will allow Jedward to be stoned.

Great headline, but it needs a sub to go with it! Definitely worth expanding, but I don't think it works as a 'ticker': it hints at some great jokes to come but isn't really a joke in itself.

In the old days, Jordan used to show Eurovision but black the screen out when Israel came on. Then in 1980 (?), Israel started cantering to victory with the entrancing A Ba Ni Bi and they cut it out altogether and so many people rang to complain it crashed the phone system. Allegedly.
This must be expanded in time for tomorrow's FP.

Maybe this should be a left alert so we can all be a little lovingly racist about every Eurovision country, but in a nice way.
"Imam, she's making eyes at me"Oh and Gero: I too find myself thinking Scronnygonkle for no good reason and always late at night too - wierd.
