Fans of the popular and long-running "Parliament" are waiting to see the latest incarnation of the Deputy Prime Minister. One die-hard fan, wearing a red tie and a fat suit said "I'll probably give up watching. John Prescott is absolutely perfect for the role and no-one will be able to fill his shoes." But others are more sanguine. "Let's give this Clegg a chance. The fact that he's an unknown is an advantage, I think. From the little we've seen of him, I think we can expect him to play the role with a lighter touch. And I fancy his assistant much more than Prescott's who looked like my aunty Doris with the boarding house in Blackpool."
It is also expected that the unknown Clegg will try to bring more social responsibility to the role. So, out will go the two Jags and in will come some sort of hybrid vehicle. And whereas the old deputy was not averse to sorting out the baddies with his fists, we can probably expect Clegg to be more cerebral in his approach to problems: probably showing them charts and Powerpoint presentations explaining exactly why they are wrong. Whether this will appeal to exisiting fans of the series remains to be seen. But the Government obviously hopes to attract enough new viewers to make the new approach a success. Let's hope so.
