moot point - I travel the M5 quite often and regularly see one of the overhead signs reading THIS SIGN NOT IN USE
surely the best way to illustrate the fact would be to leave it blank?
the very fact there is a sign saying 'not in use' means it IS in use?
That's quite pseudo-philosophical - is a sign that says 'sign not in use' in use or not?
Maybe matrix signs could be used to introduce more philosophical debate into commuting.
I saw this individualised one, at the time when Brown was PM and found it quite appealling:
I feel sorry for all those old people who drive past those signs saying "tiredness can kill". Very insensitive, but poignant.
