I know them both as I lived near Sandbach for 10 years. There was a bloody good little pub on the main road in Alsager. All changed now though. Its all takeaways for the Alsager campus of "Crewe University".
Here's an idea. Certain places on the route could literally be torched as an Olympic legacy.

There are still some good pubs up here, Bluebell, Bleeding Wolf and Beartown Tap are all good. Beartown brewery is going well! Overshadowed by Titanic a bit, though.
Sandbach is very nice, personally I live in the clouds of Mow Cop. And brew my own beer, to avoid talking to people.

It comes to Dundee on the 12th June, and as the YM and some of his year are going to the Olympics, the school has arranged the parents information evening for that date.
The letter says that the school hopes we will all walk the mile and a half to the stopping point to see the torch.
Personally, I shall be doing exactly what I always did when I was at school myself, and ducking off down a side-street at the first opportunity.

Ah that reminds me of the school 'cross country' run... or to be more accurate, the 'slide up the side road for a couple of Players No 6 and then join in at the end as the others come back' run.

dvo - go on, sub that. I mean the Olympic Flame bearer tearing off at the start of his turn with a few mates, disappearing behind a hedge for a few sneaky drags (using the torch to light the fag of course) and then re-joining just behind the convoy of sponsors' trucks.

I note the Olympic Torch is cashing in on its fifteen minutes of fame by whoring itself round BMW garages in its spare time. If you can get up to Calterdon in Inverness by 1.00 today you can get to stroke it, by the looks of things. I think you have to buy a BMW at the same time.

Just as I had started to forget all about the jogging torch I get a leaflet from the town council. The torch is going to jog around Shaftesbury on 12th July for 1 hr and 5 minutes starting at 9:31am.
To celebrate this the good officers of the town are going to close the whole place to traffic from 4am until midday. Oh FFS!
As a local trader I can apply for a permit to use the free car park!
They are so chuffed that they are anticipating 5000 people (who can't park within 2 miles) to line the streets, completely blocking access to any shops who may want to do some f*cking business. On the plus side we are invited to bake some muffins so all the visitors can have a free coffee or tea (donated by Clipper)and muffins instead of patronising one of the 9 independant cafes in town.
Do I come in early and be barracaded in my shop for 5 hours or do I stay in bed and wait for the whole pointless sharade to move on and close down Bournemouth?

Oh apparently we have spent a shit load of the town's money buying around 1000 gold muffin tins for all budding amatuer muffin makers. No recipe - no H&S. I think I'll get me some of them gold muffin tins and make some marmite and anchove muffins. Hey! I could make them with dope, ooh...

Eagerly awaiting 24th and 27th July when Kingston (I work there) gets shut down for the passage of the giant golden spliff and again on 28th & 29th for a bike race and yet again on 31st and 1st August for bike time trials (test only on 31st with "rolling road blocks/closures" but on 1st, all bridges closed from 5:30am). I thought this jamboree was supposed to be somewhere dahn the East End, not leafy Surrey.
Didn't they spend squillions of quid on a velodrome for velocipede stuff? And didn't it win some sort of award? Why don't they bloody use it instead of incommoding Sarf West London and Surrey.
Oh, and we get the Olympic tennis just up the road at Wimbledon, too. Now, we're used to Wimbledon fortnight, but they don't shut off most of the surrounding roads and stick fuck-off rocket batteries on Wimbledon Common, despite the routine attendance of international tennis glitterati and a Scotsman who starts the fortnight being British.
I swear, one day I'll have a rant about it.
I've just had an email with a map handily detailing which parts of Leicester to avoid on the 2nd and 3rd of July.
The safest rule is to avoid all of it at all times, regardless of whether the torch is around or not.

@writingetc: I think they plan to jog on the spot outside the Salt Cellar Cafe (wines provided by Shaftesbury Wines) I bet you the barricades (provided by Gillingham and Shaftesbury showground) will have mysteriously gone. Let's hope the ancient walls don't choose that moment to fall down.
Counting down to Thursday. Got my car park permit and everything. They are doing a pre-procession with an old Olympian and an old torch. Mind you they did that last Saturday for the Gold Hill Fair. Here's the thronging crowd.
