In order to show off both their green credentials the two leaders of the new coalition government will cycle to Buckingham Palace for an audience with the Queen. Sources suggest they will take one cycle with Cameron peddling and giving Clegg a backy. While posh boy Cameron has a top of the range titanium mountainbike, ‘humble’ man of the people Nick Clegg has a Raleigh Grifter which used to belong to his big brother. It is not known whose bike they will take.
London Mayor Boris Johnson (also a keen cyclist) has had the cycle lanes of The Mall specially swept in honour of the historic trip. The leaders haven’t made it clear if they will continue to cycle for their weekly audience with Her Majesty, but Civil Service procurement are currently hunting for a blue and orange tandem just in case. Cameron has already asked if there is anywhere secure to lock his bike up at the Palace.
