I can't get over the jaw-dropping arrogance of James and Rupert Murdoch at the Leveson Inquiry. They seem to think they're above the law in every respect. And heaven forfend that they may have been sailing a bit close to the wind on occasion.

Indeed, they seem to really think that papers such as The Sun and The NotW represent the highest standards of British journalism.

    Unbelievable.

    Rant over.

They represent about the same standard as the rest of the rags, if you ask me. And that includes the broadsheets.

They make good telly, though. Just took the plunge and got Sky. Game of Thrones, eh? Violent mythological porn has never been done so well. And it has dragons.

Has there ever been a decent media mogul? Maxwell? Conrad Black? The weasel that runs the BBC at the moment?

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't invite the Murdoch's to Christmas dinner. It's just that the entire bloody industry is bent, if you ask me. I expect the Guardian will run something about how Rupert oppresses poor women in Africa and that it's typical of a bloody man because they know nothing of the joy experienced through becoming a mother, terrible burden that it is in a masculine world. When did that paper get quite so...mental?

Spot on about the Guardian, Wayland, it's gone rather kak. Too many articles written by people who don't seem to visit planet Earth all that often. In many ways it's like the Daily Mail in that it prints things that are so stereotypical of its world view that you can't help wondering if it's satire.

But, at the moment, the Guardian is just about readable. I don't feel that way about any other rag.

Good Media Mogul?... might be the equivalent of asking when the last really good dictator we had out there, I mean, not Hitler - he was just awful - and Stalin was a terrible cad too - when was the last nice dictator?
It's not like non-brand local pizza delivery when very very occasionally there might be a good one.

Owning one national news outlet and you might be a power hungry control freak with a weird hidden political agenda, but at least you own just the one and you're only influencing a small part of society. Own multiple news outlets and it can get a bit dangerous.

Yes the Guardian has gone a bit weird. Have to agree there. I'm an Indie person myself, but only at the weekends.

Since the Millie phone hacking thing came out I have gone to the Windy Sunday, but it's a poor substiture for the Sunday times. I mean, I don't agree with much of the angle of the Times but it was a good read and nice to shout at. The Windie is a bit..dull. I can rarely find anything in it worth reading, let along shouting at.Sunday Times used to last me most of a week, the Windie barely lasts a couple of pints on a sunday evening.Mind you, the locals are glad I've stopped shouting at the Sunday paper.

Bonjo - the trouble with ceefax is that it's difficult to take into the bathroom to read on the toilet.
