Very unlikely, I'd say. Nothing to do with the quality of the article, I just get the feeling that the gripe/subject matter will not ring strongly with enough people to drive WoM-level traffic to the site.
Seems there’s no fair way to decide WoM. Number of articles published is too arbitrary and, with this route, there’s every chance a decidedly average contribution can win just because the headline implies criticism of homeopathy/creationists/religion etc. Which feels a bit cheap. Still, despite being imperfect, it’s as good a way as any.

I think the current way of deciding WoM is quite good. Number of FPs/NiBs leaves it in the hands of the people editing the site, whereas number of hits makes it a bit more independent and removes any chance of suggestions of bias.
Homeopathy/creationists/religion-based stories do tend to go down quite well, but that's not necessarily a bad thing is it? We all know that they go down well, but it's still not easy to write one that is both good, and original enough to be used on the FP.
All in all, I like the current system. Hopefully it will stay long enough for me to stumble across another idea that wins WoM without having to come up with lots of ideas.

It's definitely a better system than the old one. Basically though, although I realise that an idea has to have legs and be of generally high quality to make a full-length FP, how well it does (measured against the WoM criteria) is still mostly down to the headline. Disproportionately so.

I think each WoM should be decided by the previous WoM (they can't pick themselves), thus eliminating everyone's issues with every aspect of every system. Ever.

It could descend into nepotism and bitchiness...
I was just saying I liked it - didn't mean to raise a WoM issue...

Well you did. You opened a right can of WoMs.

Thanks Scroat and others for positive comments. I felt it was very much in the old whimsical NB groove and was pleased to see it do anything at all. Qoxiivi is right about target audience (as well as his other observations); with the addition of a lot of jokes it might form the basis of a stand-up routine aimed at mums and dads.
I think the current WoM system is as good as any, though being based on a single article it does sometimes seem more like 'goal of the month' than 'manager of the month'.

The strength of the current WoM system is that those aspiring to achieve this level of stardom will focus on topics with a broader currency and interest level. Writing for 'the outsiders' rather than a NB audience makes it better.
Or something.

How about a hybrid system of "total hits for your three best bits".
A runaway FP would still beat three shit ones, but it would at least give a nod to those who provide more material.
And it rhymes, so it must be right.

Sorry, missed the sub and FP completely. Good work, old chap.
I don't mind what system we have for WoM, as long as we stay with Wayland coming second.
