The South American trade association that represents the many lumber and farming companies in the Amazon rainforest have launched a new initiative to improve their public image.
SADIST (South American's for the Destruction of Indigenous Species and Tribes) have asked its members to do away the previously ugly swathes of barren treeless land and replace them with aesthetically pleasing shapes. There will also be the opportunity for advertising which would be seen on Google maps, and by astronauts and aliens.
The first shape to be be made will cover and area of 14 square kilometres and show the outline of Terra Queimada the friendly cartoon sloth who is the emblem of SADIST.
Three advertisers have already shown interest, McDonald’s, Sinar Mas Group and Derek’s 24 hour Plumbing and Heating of Crediton. McDonald’s are seeking a 7 mile tall Ronald McDonald, Sinar Mas will have frieze depicting a pulp mill. It is believed Derek’s 24 hour Plumbing and Heating of Crediton will have a 4 metre circle as that is all that Derek can afford at this time.
Greenpeace, The RSPB and The WWF are have released a joint statement which stated “We are outraged at these proposals, the destruction of these habitats for the financial gain of a few multinationals is a crime against the Earth, we were hoping to clear some space for us so we could hold a big rock concert to raise money for us. Every week an area the size of Chipping-Sodbury is lost in the Amazon, that includes the new housing estate and Lidl”.
SADIST hope to inform the public about the positive aspects of deforestation, such as an increase in carbon in the atmosphere, less dangerous animals and a new Sting album.

Yeah, good expansion. The pedants may point out that Sinar Mas is Indonesian rather than South American and that the final sentence should say fewer rather than less, but it works for me.
