Why don't they take all the horses with broken legs etc and instead of shooting them, run them in a "Paralympics" style race after the Grand National ?

That's a great idea Charlie! If I was better at writing subs I'd give it a go.
This creates all sorts of dreadful mental images of horses being catapulted over the jumps in the style of Monty Python (you filthy English K-niggit). Maybe they would need to put in access ramps over the jumps instead for the injured horses.
If I was any better at subbing go's, I'd give it a write.

Would the jockey also have to be disabled ?
I'd pay good money to watch a blind jockey on a 3-legged horse take on a 7-foot fence
