It has been revealed that Pete Jenkins, the country’s unluckiest sweepstake contestant, struck again at Saturday’s Grand National. Mr Jenkins, an accounts clerk from Basingstoke, has now randomly picked horses which died during the big race in each of the past seven years that he’s entered the draw.
It was an omen, drawing According To Pete, according to Pete, who admits that his rare forays into the world of gambling have not generally gone well, either for him in monetary terms or for the subject of his bets in life expectation terms.
“But I only enter horse racing sweepstakes now,” he said. “I still feel guilty about poor Ayrton.”
