Elvis Presley, AKA Dwayne Summerfield, admits that years of subterfuge were in vain when he unthinkingly denied faking his own death.
Dwayne had covered his tracks for years by posting “Elvis faked his death” stories on websites also covering 9/11 conspiracy, faked moon landing, and Obama birthing stories. The simple step of disguising himself as an Elvis impersonator in Las Vegas had provided both a convincing disguise and a modest income.
But things unravelled when Las Vegas reporter, Josh Martin, asked Dwayne the direct question “Elvis, did you fake your own death?” Dwayne noted that although his response of “no I didn’t” gave the game away, “yes” would not have worked either, and “who is Elvis” would have been implausible given his occupation.
“I should have just said ‘I’m not Elvis’” said Dwayne, before defiantly adding “but I didn’t deliberately fake my own death anyway – I was just in the toilet a very long time and everyone jumped to conclusions.”
