Fans of Rock, Paper, Scissors were stunned after the shock defeat of Paper by underdog, Rock, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas last night.
Paper had never lost to Rock in countless meetings over the years, and was hotly tipped to walk away with the spoils when the high-profile event drew the old foes against one another yet again. But after a heated battle the decision went to the judges’ scorecards and, after a long delay, Rock was awarded the win by split-decision amid chaotic scenes.
At the post-fight press conference Paper was visibly rattled and accused the sport’s governing body of a number of “irregularities”, citing an unidentified man in a hat who was seen interfering with the scorecards.
Further disruption ensued when Scissors – who lost to Rock in the qualifier - appeared at the back of the conference room and said at least four times “I will stab you”, but as a scuffle broke out between the two, the new champion was easily able to disarm his attacker.
When asked afterwards what he put the shock win down to, Rock said “Ultimately I was boulder than Paper, and Paper just folded.”
