Still smarting from William Roache’s revelation that he slept with over 1,000 woman, Ken Barlow has counter-attacked by suing for defamation of character. Documents filed last week in the Manchester High Court allege that Roache’s 1,000 woman claim makes Barlow, who has only slept with 28 woman, appear boring by comparison. The documents allege damage, in that Barlow is less likely to be scripted to sleep with Sunita Alahan, and more likely to be scripted to sleep with Deirdre Barlow.
Roache has reacted angrily to the news of the lawsuit, declaring “until the lawsuit is withdrawn and Ken apologises, I intend only going through the motions in playing Ken Barlow, and will adopt a stilted and wooden acting style. I am a patient man and I can keep this up for years if needs be.”
Coronation Street producers have so far been reluctant to comment on the on-going fracas, but note it has been difficult to separate Ken and William on set.
